Obituary:
Charles Haut
Tuesday, January 2, 1900, at Emporium, Pa., Charles Haut, an old citizen of that
town, was found dead in bed. His age was 80 years and 1 month.
In 1892 he celebrated his gold wedding and his wife survives him in her 78th
year. Two sons, George and Charles live at Emporium, and one daughter, Kate
(Mrs. DeCourcey) who lives at Sizerville, Cameron county, are the other
surviving members of the Haut family.
Mr. Haut was brewer by trade and at the one time conducted a brewery at St.
Marys. He was in politics an ardent and life long Democrat. He lived for a
number of years in Clearfield county, from whence he came to St. Marys, removing
to Emporium thirty years ago, where he remained until his death. The remains
were brought to St. Marys Thursday evening, January 4, and taken to the home of
Mrs. Brechtel on Marius street. Friday morning the funeral took place at St.
Marys church and the interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
There were present from Emporium County Commissioner A. Vought, Mr. F. X. Blumel
and wife, Miss Mary Gallenmiller, and number of others.
Obituary:
Charles Hout, an aged citizen of this place, residing on West Sixth Street, died
quite suddenly on Monday last. It appears that he retired that evening in his
usual health, and got up at about 12 o'clock and replenished the fire and
returned to bed. At about 1 o'clock, his aged wife noticed that he was lying
very quiet and she spoke to him and receiving no reply, touched him and found
that he was cold in death. Mr. Hout was 80 years of age, and was a familiar
figure on our street. He had been a resident of Emporium for a great many years.
He leaves a wife and quite a number of grown-up children to mourn his demise.
